Mabel Cameron was a local artist of the Balmoral area, well known for her watercolour paintings of the magnificent trees and mountains that surrounded her. I think her work could be best described as being very much in the Hans Hysen style.
The Mabel Cameron Prize is awarded at the Chameleon Arts Collective Art Show in commemoration of the dedication shown by Mabel to establishing a vibrant arts community here in Balmoral. Many have been inspired by her works and have gone on to develop their own style of painting or have developed a new direction.
