I combine mark-making with textile experimentation to document my ideas and personal journey both in my new land, Australia , and whilst revisiting South Africa . In these two works fibre, simple stitches and African beaded items are used to represent the effect that people have had on the land and their lifestyle. There is a catch 22 situation between the impact of agriculture on the rural land which small communities depend on for survival and the situation that rural African women find themselves in with regard to migrant labour which has contributed largely to the high figures of HIV Aids amongst women. |
