The 'Such Dryland' series.
Essentially it explores the patterns, rhythms and forms of the Wimmera landscape in times of drought. The use of fire and wood in the making of this series reflects those elements I feel render our landscape as both mystical and unique and beautiful. Fire is by nature a natural phenomenon, it cleanses and creates regeneration, it can also cause enormous destruction. It has been used by aboriginal people for centuries as a means of survival, for warmth, cooking, hunting and to care for the land. It seems only natural to use it as a creative medium. |
